Run Your Own Race

All the Kidz were cheering Bixie on.  She thought that was because she would win the second-place ribbon.  And second place wasn’t so bad either.  At least she would finish the race!

She looked towards the finish line for Coug, but she didn’t see him.  She just hoped he wouldn’t tease her for being a slow turtle and not being fast enough.  But Coug was nowhere to be seen.

High in the branches of that shady tree, Coug heard cheering.  He dreamed that these were the cheers from when HE won the marathon.

Winning first place would be great – even though it was against slow Bixie.

Then he woke up from his dream.  He couldn’t see Bixie anywhere.  He jumped down from the apple tree, and when he jumped the laces of his high-tops had come untied.  He quickly tied them.

Then he ran the race as fast as he could.  There was no way he was going to let Bixie win.  That just wouldn’t be right!

So, he ran even faster!

He saw that Bixie was getting very close to the finish line, so he ran super fast, in a cougar burst of speed!

Close to the finish line Bixie kept plodding on.  The KidzAnimals were cheering louder and louder.

“Hurry up Bixie!  Hurry, hurry!  Coug is catching up!”

WHAT?  Bixie saw that Coug was coming from behind her.

She was very surprised that Coug wasn’t in front of her, or rather, she was surprised that SHE had somehow gotten in front of Coug.

So, even though she was tired, she pushed just a little bit more.

Her slow box turtle legs sped up just a little bit.  Her stubby turtle arms pumped even harder.  THEN, out of breath, she crossed the finish line!
