Pandish and Pandas

COMMON NAME:  Panda, Giant Panda
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Ailuropoda melanoleuca
DIET:   Bamboo. A huge amount of bamboo is consumed on a daily basis.
YOUNG:  The female Panda gives birth to one or two cubs. The baby Panda is born blind and only weighs 5 ounces (142 grams).
HABITAT:  Remote, mountainous regions in central China.
FACTS:

A Giant Panda’s diet is almost exclusively (99 percent) bamboo.
Pandas have very strong teeth and jaws in order to crush and break the bamboo stalks.
They are solitary animals who prefer to live alone.
Pandas have a good sense of smell which allows male Giant Pandas to avoid each other.
