YOUNG:  Puppies are born in a litter. The female usually has multiple puppies, with the average number being 6 puppies.
HABITAT:   Throughout the world, living closely with people.
FACTS:

• Dogs are a domesticated (which means made tame) subspecies of the gray wolf.
• Dogs were the first species to be tamed by humans - over 15,000 years ago.
• Originally used for work - they pulled loads, hunted, watched sheep, and guarded property.
