DIET: Carnivorous. Mainly deer, also some smaller animals such as coyotes, porcupines, and raccoons.
YOUNG: Cougar kittens are born in litters of 1 to 6 kittens. They are blind at birth, and their eyes open in 8 to 9 days.
HABITAT: Cougars live from the Canadian Yukon, through western North America, and throughout Central and South America. They range in various types of forests, grasslands, mountains, and swamplands.
FACTS:
- Cougars are the largest cats that can purr.
- They are the fastest animals in North America and can run in bursts of speed up to 40 miles an hour.
- Cougars are amazing jumpers and can leap 16 feet up, and more than 45 feet across.
